The TEMPEST follows in the wake of its very successful predecessors - the Tornado 11 and Tornado XX. It grew in size markedly, retaining the excellent flight characteristics of its forerunners. Thanks to the large size the in-flight behavior of the Tempest is of a more "grown-up" nature.

The building process does not differ substantially from that of the flying wings for combat flying.

Addition of tubular glassfibre spars brought more rigidity to the model.

To facilitate transport the wing is in two parts; the control is provided by an ordinary RC equipment.

Need to Complete

  • Transmitter - two-channel one with the delta mixer (you can also use a mixer in the model)
  • Servos - 2*, standard size (50 g)
  • Receiver - standard
  • Accumulator battery - 4 pieces*, AA size, in a flat pack

A list of other necessary material: epoxy glue, medium thick cyanoacrylate glue, contact glue in a spray can (3M77), glass roving-reinforced self-adhesive tape, coloured self adhesive tape or iron-on covering film (AS Film) to cover the model, transparent self-adhesive tape to make the elevon hinges.

List of necessary tools: modelling knife, solder gun with spare wire for forming the cutting eyes, flat iron (a household one suffices), nippers, steel ruler, scissors...

List of parts in the kit:

  • 2 wing halves of EPP (each in two sections)
  • EPP strips to fill the wing main spar grooves
  • 1*string to stiffen the wing and the joiner tube
  • 2*elevon of extruded polystyrene foam
  • 2*vertical stabilizer
  • 2*glassfibre tube wing spar
  • 4* joiner tubes
  • 2* root rib
  • 2*auxiliary rib
  • 2*wing joiner
  • 2*arm
  • 4*screw
  • 4*clevis
  • 2*control rod
  • 4*underlay material under the elevon arms
  • 1*receiver cover

Imagine this on your local slope!

About EPP Foamies

EPP (Expanded Polypropylene) foam is a fairly recent innovation that has revolutionized the slope soaring segment of our hobby and is rapidly finding applications to the mainstream R/C community.  Slope combat enthusiasts are making scale warbirds out of this material for full contact combat. These planes are flown in 30+ mph ridge lift and are designed to ram into each other at high speed and crash to the ground with no damage. EPP foam doesn't dent or break. It has a "spongy" quality to it, so on impact it compresses and pops back to shape. I have nose dived my Tornado II straight into the ground during "rough landings" only to have it bounce about 3 feet in the air and come to rest upside down.  The only damage was some grass stains on the tape covering.  Having this kind of crash resistance is truly liberating.
