The Phoenix Makes A Short Visit To ETSA ParkThe January meeting at ETSA Park saw a slightly wounded Phoenix call in to ETSA Park for a quick look but, as this is compiled, I have it on fairly good authority that he will be back with all bells and whistles for the February gathering on 21st. I will add that when the Ambo carted the poor bird away, the flashing L.E.D’s almost put Justin Galbraith’s Ikarus to shame. Enough on that topic. That is some form of apology for my rather half-hearted episode for this edition.
There were two quite amazing facets of this night, from a spectator’s point of view, and they were, firstly the young gentleman who, I believe making his second appearance with his Blade CX2, magnificently demonstrated the versatility of this amazing little Helicopter and the speed with which one can become quite adept at its controls. His hovers were shown to emulate one with much more experience. As another who has enjoyed the pleasure of the little CX2, since they were first released by Model Flight, I congratulate you, but even more, it thrilled me to see how closely he was watched by his dad. Dad is well known S.S.L. Member, Robert Gunn and his son, Nick, the avid Blade flier, and this demonstration of father/son dedication shows how the Indoor Activities at ETSA Park and other flying sites, can help keep a family interested in our branch of the sport. We have seen it before, without naming other names. My first picture shows dad watching over the apprentice!
The other main feature of this story is of Dennis Miller. Dennis is a Net Surfer of some brilliance and there is little of a model flying nature that escapes his watchful eye.
His latest escapade, though of short duration, is of a rather attractive, in an ugly sort of way, aircraft, namely “The Morback.” Whatever you do, please don’t ask this scribe “Why does it have a name like that?” I probably would call it “Slats” or something similar because, quite prominent in it’s design were these slats, one over the leading edge of each wing, about ten mil off the wing. My second picture may show these. Whilst I said it was ugly, that may have been a little cruel because, in Dennis’s hands, it was jolly beautiful to watch. He took a little while to settle down, having made a couple of half-hearted attempts to climb up the goal post, but soon after that, his demonstration became quite thrilling. I did remark that it looked rather strong but, it was reported, that soon after my early departure, the Morback ceased to be. Oh deah!

Don’t despair if you missed it on E-Bay or such because Model Flight is bringing in a model that is quite similar to the Morback. Watch for it.
I shall leave you now, dear readers and, as I mentioned at the beginning of this episode, I do hope to be back with you all – full strength.
